About

Cooper Heart Institute

Cooper Heart Institute is a comprehensive adult cardiovascular program that provides advanced non-invasive and invasive surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients in the southern New Jersey region.

Cooper Heart Institute has become a Center for Excellence for valve care in the region. Our expertise and outcomes with minimally invasive procedures are unmatched in the region.

Among the novel treatments made available by the center is TAVR—transcatheter aortic valve replacement. TAVR is a procedure that allows for the replacement of a diseased aortic valve with a new valve without requiring the chest to be opened. The new valve is introduced through a blood vessel in the leg. Cooper Heart Institute is one of the first 50 sites in the United States to perform this procedure, was the first in New Jersey and continues to lead the state in total procedures.

Cooper Resuscitation Center – Cooper is the only dedicated center for therapeutic hypothermia in southern New Jersey. Cooper has treated more therapeutic hypothermia cases than any other hospital in the region.

Women’s Heart Program – Heart disease is still the number-one killer of women. Cooper has more female cardiologists to treat female patients than any other hospital in South Jersey, and has specialized programs including a program dedicated to chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity, which often occurs in women being treated for breast cancer.

Heart Rhythm Center – Providing patients with the most advanced technology in arrhythmia management available in the field today, Cooper’s team of electrophysiologists (cardiologists who specialize in heart rhythm disorders) perform thousands of complex procedures each year, and are nationally and internationally renowned leaders in arrhythmia management. Recently, the team was one of the first in the nation, and the first in New Jersey, to provide an innovative, FDA-approved therapy—the S-ICD (subcutaneous internal cardiac defibrillator) System—to help patients at risk for sudden cardiac arrest. The Cooper Heart Rhythm Center was also recently selected as one of 12 Centers of Excellence in the nation for laser-assisted lead extraction.

The Cardiac Surgery Program has a reputation for the best outcomes with the most heart surgeries in the region. The Society for Thoracic Surgery has rated Cooper’s Heart Surgery program with “3 Stars,” the highest rating possible, three years in a row.
