George E. Norcross, III, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cooper Health System was awarded the 2011 Healthcare System Trustee of the Year by the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) today. The NJHA honored Norcross for his long leadership in reshaping a financially troubled institution into one of the top tier academic medical centers in New Jersey. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Cooper Health System since 1990 and has been the Chairman since 2006.
“I am honored to be the recipient of the 2011 Healthcare System Trustee of the Year Award,” said Mr. Norcross. “With the support of our Board and executive leadership, Cooper has undergone tremendous transformation taking what was once a vision for a truly academic health campus and making it a reality. I am proud of the establishment of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, which is on target to open in 2012, setting the stage for the next level of medical education in our region.”

Cooper University Hospital’s Board Chairman, George E. Norcross, III, is calling upon organizations involved in the revitalization of Camden to discuss a resolution to keep some Camden families in their homes as negotiated in 1992 by developer Israel Roizman.
According to news reports, the contract on these properties, developed in 1992 and signed by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, stated that 91 homes would be turned over by the developer after a period of 15 years and sold to the low-income tenants for $1.
It is also reported that in 2008, Roizman promised to turn the homes over the following year, but has been unable to find a nonprofit or government agency willing to create a homeowners association to handle property-transfer issues.

The December 2010 issue of South Jersey magazine highlighted the groundbreaking ceremony of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, which took place in October, with photos from the event. Cooper leadership featured in the photo include John P. Sheridan, Jr., President and CEO, and Paul Katz, MD, Founding Dean of the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
Robin Perry, MD, Chief, Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cooper, was also featured in this edition under the “Names to Know” section for receiving the March of Dimes Born to Shine Award for outstanding infant and maternity care.
In South Jersey’s first-ever power list, George E. Norcross, III, Chairman of the Board, John P. Sheridan, Jr., President and CEO and John Tedeschi, MD, member of the Board of Trustees, were all recognized for positively shaping our region through their vision and leadership.

Gary J. Lesneski
The Cooper Health System announced yesterday that Joel B. Rosen, former United States Magistrate Judge, will become a member of its Board of Trustees in September 2010 and that Gary J. Lesneski has been appointed Senior Executive Vice President/General Counsel to The Cooper Health System. Mr. Lesneski will assume his new role effective October 1, 2010.
Judge Rosen, who has served as General Counsel to The Cooper Health System, will return to the private practice of law at Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP as a partner in the Cherry Hill, New Jersey office. There he will concentrate his practice in public and private mediation, commercial litigation and internal investigations.
