Patient Safety Sentinel: Enteric Contact Precautions

Enteric Contact Precautions

Enteric Precautions are used for suspect (rule-out) or confirmed to have C diff or norovirus.

  • C diff can remain in the environment for several months meaning the patient room and items in the room can remain contaminated for long periods of time.
  • EVERYONE, including VISITORS must wear PPE (gown & gloves) to enter the room.
  • Upon leaving the room,  PPE is discarded and Hand Hygiene with SOAP & Water must be performed. Alcohol sanitizer is not effective to kill C diff spores.

Protecting our patients is the top priority at Cooper University Health Care. We need 100 percent compliance with all patient safety procedures.

A sentinel is one who stands guard or watch to protect others. We need all employees to be sentinels to protect our patients and keep watch to ensure all patient safety procedures are being strictly followed.

One Team. One Purpose.
