Patient Safety Sentinel: Process for Cleaning of Equipment and General Surface Cleaning

  1. Perform hand hygiene.
  2. Don gloves.
  3. If obvious soil is present, use first wipe, applying friction to completely remove soil.
  4. Use a clean wipe(s) to thoroughly wipe and wet surface.
  5. Surface must remain wet for the time designated by the manufacturer on the cleaning product.  (Click here to see the guide from April 27, 2017.)
  6. Additional wipes might be required to assure surface remains wet for the entire contact time, then allowed to air dry.  Do not wipe dry.
  7. Doff gloves.
  8. Perform hand hygiene.

The red-top Sani-wipe is Cooper approved for all non-porous surfaces of bed railings, cabinets, carts, chairs, counters, exam tables, gurneys, isolettes, IV poles, stethoscopes, stretchers, tables, telephones, toilet seats, and hard non-porous exterior surfaces of diagnostic equipment, patient monitoring equipment, and patient support and delivery equipment.

When using disinfectants, wear PPE according to the task being performed.

Protecting our patients is the top priority at Cooper University Health Care. We need 100 percent compliance with all patient safety procedures.

A sentinel is one who stands guard or watch to protect others. We need all employees to be sentinels to protect our patients and keep watch to ensure all patient safety procedures are being strictly followed.

One Team. One Purpose.
