Cooper Offering Free Stop the Bleed Education – Sign-Up Today!

It is estimated that more than 30,000 lives could be saved a year with effective bleeding control. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, so quickly stopping the bleeding is critical. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide immediate care if they are equipped with the appropriate training and resources. No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. Stop the Bleed is a national campaign to provide training so that bystanders are able to act as immediate responders.

Cooper’s Trauma Outreach has an ongoing series of classes that anyone is welcome to attend. In honor of National Stop the Bleed Day on Saturday, March 31, 2018, two classes are being held in the community—one will be at the Antioch Baptist Church in Camden and the other will be at The Ripa Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at Cooper in Voorhees. Click here to register online for these two classes.

In addition, Cooper educators are available to take the program to community groups and businesses – please contact the educators via email at StopTheBleed@cooperhealth.edu to request the program be held at your location.

The Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) program is a two-hour course that teaches non-clinical laypersons how to apply tourniquets, pack a wound, and open a victim’s airway.

“Bleeding to death is preventable,” says Brian Collins, EMS Outreach Coordinator at Cooper. “With B-Con training, countless lives will have a fighting chance at survival. Just as we save lives through CPR, we can save more lives by controlling severe bleeding.”

Be ready to act in the face of an emergency, and get trained!
