Adrienne Kirby Announces Her Upcoming Retirement

Our Executive Chairman and CEO, Adrienne Kirby, informed the Board of Trustees that she will retire effective June 1, 2019. Adrienne, who joined Cooper in 2012, has led our health system through some of its strongest years of growth. Over the last seven years, more people than ever have come to trust Cooper for their health care needs as we now experience more than 1.6 million patient visits annually. Similarly, Cooper’s revenue has grown from $823 million in 2012 to more than $1.3 billion in 2018.

To ensure that we continue this strong growth trajectory, the Board of Trustees has appointed Kevin M. O’Dowd, JD, and Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, who have been serving as co‐ presidents since March, to take on the additional role of co‐CEOs effective June 1, 2019. Kevin and Anthony have established a strong working relationship with clear lines of responsibility and the Board is confident in their ability to successfully lead Cooper.

Since 2012, Adrienne has provided vital leadership in many new ventures that have transformed Cooper into a major academic health system, including implementation of the Institute model, developing clinical partnerships across South Jersey, growing our acute care transport service and facilitating the successful affiliation with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. In addition, Adrienne was also instrumental in establishing our premier partnership and growing MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper into the leading cancer center in the region.

Adrienne has made a positive impact on Cooper and many of us, our patients, and their families.

We wish Adrienne all the best in retirement as well as congratulating Kevin and Anthony as our new co‐presidents and CEOs.
