Congratulations to Surgical Residents for Involvement with American College of Surgeons

Congratulations to Dr. Dana McCloskey, who has been selected as the Resident and Associate Society Liaison Representative to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Board of Governors Surgical Care and Delivery Workgroup. She joins Dr. Lyndsey Daniels, who has received a grant to attend the ACS Leadership and Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC, and Dr. Kimberly Linden, who serves as a resident member of the SCORE oversight committee, with national roles in the American College of Surgeons.

Art and Hearts at Last Week’s Resident Wellness Event

Last week our residents enjoyed amazing food, a selfie station, an airbrush tattoo artist, chair massages, and visits with Daisy and Rex, our therapy dogs, as part of our most recent Resident Wellness Event. We also gave away fun raffles and one lucky winner has received upgraded parking through May! Congratulations Cooper Team!

Raffle drawing winners:

  • Kristen Mazoki, Psychiatry, won the Pasta Bowl/Wine Glass Basket
  • Jaanki Dave, Internal Medicine, won the Tea/Candles Basket
  • Vittorio Terrigno, Internal Medicine, won the Cookie Tin
  • Casey Sheck, Plastic Surgery, won the Bath & Body Box
  • Jonathan Maw, Internal Medicine, won the Jam Basket

And for our biggest prize: The number of candy hearts in the jar was 389. The closest guess without going over was 350. Congratulations to Shilp Vaghela, Radiology, who will enjoy upgraded parking to the CCIA garage for the months of March through May.

Cooper Surgical Residents Present Papers at Philadelphia Academy of Surgery

Cooper General Surgery Residents Dr. Huan Wang and Dr. Dana McCloskey

On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Dr. Dana McCloskey and Dr. Huan Wang with Cooper’s General Surgery Residency Program were among 15 residents, representing all Philadelphia area surgical residencies, presenting papers at the annual resident paper competition at the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the oldest surgical organization in the country.

Kudos to both residents on their presentations, and special congratulations to Dr. Wang, who took the award for second place in this resident competition.Are you a Cooper resident or fellow with news about a recent presentation, publication, or GME activity? Dr. McCloskey presented “Human Adipose Derived Stem Cells Increase Collagen Deposition and Granulation, Improving Healing in a Rat Model of Esophageal Injury With Stent Placement.” Dr. Wang presented “The Effect of Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Delivered in Fibrin Glue on the Early Phase of Colon Anastomotic Healing in Rats.”
