Recognizing National Respiratory Care Week

Cooper University Health Care is proud to recognize National Respiratory Care Week from October 25 through October 31, 2020. This has been a particularly challenging year for respiratory therapists (RTs), as they have played a critical role throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout the pandemic, RT teams around the country learned that because COVID-19 primarily affects a patient’s respiratory functions, placing critical COVID-19-positive patients in a prone position (lying horizontally, face down) allows for better lung expansion and improved outcomes. The skill and expertise of RTs is integral to the success of this labor-intensive intervention, which has become a mainstay in the care of many COVID-19 patients. RTs have also had to care for unprecedented numbers of ventilated patients throughout the pandemic, sometimes with limited resources.

At Cooper, our RTs have worked together to successfully care for thousands of patients throughout the pandemic. Their resiliency, commitment, and skill make them a vital part of the Cooper team.
