Walter Faber, CCT at Cooper
What is your role at Cooper?
I’m a critical care technician on Pavilion nine at Cooper and have been at Cooper for ten years. I am a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), a certified EKG technician (CET), a certified phlebotomy technician (CPT), and also have a principles of health coaching certification (HC). The principles of health coaching certification was paid for through Cooper’s staff development program.
What three Cooper Values best describe you?
Innovative- I continue to challenge existing practice and strive to find ways to improve continuously.
Ownership- I am committed to doing what is best for the organization and not just myself.
Excellence- Good enough is not in my vocabulary. I continuously strive to deliver the best care and will not settle for less.
What drew you to this career?
I always loved helping people, and it wasn’t until 2008 when my dad was in the hospital that I considered healthcare a career option. The staff was great, and I knew then I was meant to be in healthcare.
Tell us about a day in your life at Cooper.
When I come into work at Cooper, I try to learn something about my patients. I like to find common interests and have them forget even for a second that they are going to surgery or the life they knew would be changed. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when we didn’t have patient visitors, I considered myself their extended family. I wanted them to feel a sense of security since the staff was the only in-person social interaction they would have during their stay here at Cooper.
What does it take to be successful in your role?
To be successful, you have to be passionate about what you’re doing and give it your all and go that extra mile. I always strive to be my best self, doing what is best for the organization and, more importantly, the patient.
How would you describe the team at Cooper?
The team at Cooper has excellent support, with all of us working together for our patients, improving their expectations.
What do you hope your patients say about you to their family and friends?
That they received excellent care, and they felt well looked after and, most of all, confident that they chose the right hospital to take care of their health.
