About this Year\u2019s Lecture:\u00a0 <\/strong>Modern medicine is on the cusp of a new era filled with powerful therapies, but it\u2019s also brimming with potential hazards to our profession. Today, becoming a doctor means entering a world of gene therapy and endless data, but also one in which medical institutions and expertise are questioned and often critiqued.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jonathan Reisman will explore these big questions by drawing insights from his unique career practicing medicine all over the country and the world. The lecture will highlight ways doctors can strengthen the culture of medical ethics and humanism, especially by diagnosing themselves and the health care systems in which they work.<\/p>\n

About the Speaker:\u00a0<\/strong>Jonathan Reisman, MD<\/strong><\/p>\n

Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine<\/em><\/p>\n

Assistant Professor Emergency Medicine <\/em><\/p>\n

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Reisman graduated from New York University with a BA in Mathematics and received his MD degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He trained in combined internal medicine and pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital. Since finishing residency, he has mostly worked in rural and remote emergency rooms throughout the country, including in Arctic Alaska, Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and several hospitals in rural Pennsylvania. Dr. Reisman has practiced wilderness medicine in remote parts of the world including Antarctica, the Russian Arctic, and at high-altitude in Nepal. He\u2019s conducted public and global health research in Alaska, India, Tanzania and Kolkata, India. He began writing as a medical student, and his essays have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Slate <\/em>and Discover<\/em> Magazine<\/em>. His first book \u201cThe Unseen Body\u201d was published in November 2021 and is being translated into six languages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
