{"id":162,"date":"2010-11-17T14:38:54","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T14:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/drlawrence\/?p=162"},"modified":"2010-11-19T22:31:01","modified_gmt":"2010-11-19T22:31:01","slug":"holiday-first-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/drlawrence\/2010\/11\/17\/holiday-first-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Holiday First Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Print\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/drlawrence\/files\/2010\/11\/lasvegasholidays-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" \/><strong>Treatments for Holiday Burns and Cuts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>As we approach the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, accidental burns and cuts are an all-to-frequent occurrence as we prepare for family and friends.\u00a0 We offer suggestions for treatment of burns and cuts:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Treatments for Minor Burns<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cool compresses: <\/strong>Soak paper towels or washcloths in ice water and drape it over the affected area to relieve pain.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hydrogels:<\/strong> Regeneration of the epidermis (the upper layer of skin) occurs best in a moist environment. \u00a0Hydrogels are mostly water combined with natural or synthetic polymers.\u00a0 Their high water content allows hydrogels to have great flexibility similar to natural tissue.\u00a0 Consider applying a hydrogel dressing, such as Vigilon or 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Skin, to minor burn wounds.\u00a0 Some suggest freezing the dressing prior to application to aid pain relief.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elevation:<\/strong> When possible, elevate the burn site above your heart.
