Managing one’s health or family’s health care needs can sometimes be a challenge. Add into the mix the need to manage co-pays, deductibles, and other financial liability for services which often results in a delay of needed care. In this challenging landscape of health benefits, Cooper is committed to supporting our patients and the community with financial and insurance benefit expertise. With introduction of the Cooper Benefits Consultants program earlier this year, Cooper is providing consumers with access to a dedicated team of counselors who can help reduce the complexity of health care finances and improve the patient experience.
“Our team is available to help Cooper patients understand the extent of their benefit coverage, and any out-of-pocket expenses they may incur, including co-pays and deductibles required by their insurance carrier,” says Sandra Bokas, Director of Access Business Services at Cooper. “We want to make sure our patients do not avoid necessary exams and procedures based on unclear or misunderstood financial obligations.”
Consumers can also look to Cooper Benefits Consultants for information on their existing health plans or to sign up for a plan. Each team member participated in and passed a rigorous education and testing process to become Certified Application Counselors, which gives them the in-depth knowledge and skill to navigate the Affordable Care Act insurance market.
Cooper Benefits Consultants can estimate patient liability, coordinate benefits across multiple insurances, and identify opportunities for coverage options and subsidized programs, such as state Medicaid programs and NJ Charity Care, to offset patient costs.
“Our Consultants can help you find the right insurance coverage based on your health care needs, family size, and financial circumstances,” says Laura Braswell, Manager of Access Business Services. “They are also able to assist you with questions concerning cost sharing and tax credits and will help you navigate the HealthCare.gov website and sign up for coverage over the telephone.”
Improving the patient experience, where stress related to financial matters is lessened, is the goal of Cooper Benefits Consultants.
