At MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper – No One Fights Cancer Alone
If you are a woman diagnosed with breast or gynecologic cancer, your cancer journey should not be traveled alone. You need an entire team by your side, ensuring that every aspect of your care is managed and coordinated.
The Women’s Cancer Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper – the first of its kind in the region – takes a personalized approach to caring for women with breast and gynecologic cancer, because no two women, and no two women’s cancer experiences, are the same.
The program is led by recognized leaders in the field of women’s cancers – Kristin L. Brill, MD, Director of the Section of Breast Surgery and Director of the Janet Knowles Breast Cancer Program, and David P. Warshal, MD, Head of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Director of the Gynecologic Cancer Program.
A Unique Physician-Patient Bond
The clinical aspects of our program focus on providing patients with access to advanced treatment options, such as the targeted therapies and immunotherapy, innovative radiation treatment options, genomic tumor testing, clinical trials, and a full range of supportive care services.
But what truly sets our program apart is our collaborative approach to care and the relationships that develop between members of the care team and the patients.
“The physician-patient bond is unique and very special,” says Dr. Brill. “There is no greater responsibility than when a patient puts their life in your hands. Our team recognizes and values this trust.”
Access to Clinical Trials and Supportive Care Services
In addition to advanced screening, detection, treatment, and survivorship care, the Women’s Cancer Program also offers access to novel clinical trials to identify new approaches to cancer treatments.
“Cancer treatments are constantly evolving with new methods and medications always in development,” says Dr. Warshal. “Patients who chose to participate in clinical trials at MD Anderson at Cooper receive some of the most advanced research protocols available.
“Additionally, through our partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, patients have access to the same cancer treatment plans delivered at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas,” says Dr. Warshal.
We recognize the emotional and spiritual toll that cancer can take on the lives of patients and their families and that managing only the physical aspects of the disease is not enough. The Women’s Cancer Program provides patients with support services such as behavioral medicine, complementary medicine, nutritional counseling, and social work services to help manage life during treatment and recovery.
Leading the Way in Quality and Patient Outcomes
Quality indicators are important for measuring the value of a cancer program and its clinical team. The specialists at MD Anderson at Cooper care for more women with gynecologic and breast cancer than at any other hospital in South Jersey.
“At MD Anderson at Cooper’s Women’s Cancer Program, we have more experience and more options than any other cancer program, right here in South Jersey,” says Generosa Grana, MD, Medical Oncologist and Director of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.
