We encourage you to speak to your doctor and not delay any needed health care.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper University Health Care has resumed performing all surgeries. Our teams of surgeons and infectious disease experts have taken a number of steps to protect our patients from COVID-19 infection during their surgeries and inpatient stay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/patients-visitors\/coronavirus-covid-19-information\"><em>Click here<\/em><\/a><em> to read about all the measures Cooper has taken at our hospital and outpatient locations to ensure the safety of our patients, providers, and staff members. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to care for our surgery patients in a safe environment,\u201d says Jeffrey P. Carpenter, MD, Chief and Chairman of the Department of Surgery. \u201cGoing beyond the recommendations from the CDC and the New Jersey Department of Health, Cooper has designated non-COVID operating rooms and patient floors within the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic, Cooper continued to safely perform emergency and life-saving surgeries that could not be delayed. You can feel confident that your Cooper surgical team is experienced and prepared to keep you safe during your procedure and hospital stay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, we limited surgeries to life-saving procedures that couldn\u2019t be postponed. Our team has constructed a detailed plan of action to ensure our patients are safe and comfortable as we resume a more normal surgical schedule,\u201d Francis R. Spitz, MD, Vice Chief, Department of Surgery, confidently states.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>As always, all Cooper surgical facilities and patient rooms are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected in accordance with CDC and Joint Commission standards to minimize the risk of infection during recovery. Additionally, all surgical patients are being tested for COVID-19 at least three days prior to surgery to further minimize the risk of spreading the virus to other patients and the surgical teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>To further maximize safety, our medical and surgical team will work with patients beforehand to shorten their length of stay in the hospital by preparing them for surgery using standard pre-operative protocols. Surgery patients will be continually monitored after surgery and will be discharged only when appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to keep patients in the hospital until they can be safely discharged, while keeping the length of stay down,\u201d says Dr. Spitz. \u201cWe are now scheduling surgeries for patients who have delayed their procedures, so they can resume their planned course of care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, Cooper\u2019s temporary restricted visitor policy is still in place, with limited exceptions.
