Cooper includes South Jersey\u2019s only Level I trauma center &#8211; the busiest trauma center in the Philadelphia region &#8211; MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Children\u2019s Regional Hospital at Cooper, \u00a0three urgent care centers, and more than 100 outpatient offices from Southeastern Pennsylvania to the Jersey Shore, including large regional hubs in Camden, Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Willingboro, and Sewell. Caring for our patients, their families, and our community is possible because of our team\u2019s commitment to our mission: To serve, to heal, to educate.<\/p>\n<p>The first weeks of November are particularly special, recognizing the value of several Cooper teams at once:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical-Surgical Nurses Week, November 1-7<\/li>\n<li>Patient Transport Week, November 1-7<\/li>\n<li>Medical Staff Services Week, November 7-13<\/li>\n<li>Allied Health Professionals Week, November 7-13<\/li>\n<li>National Compliance Week, November 7-13<\/li>\n<li>National Nurse Practitioners Week, November 7-13<\/li>\n<li>Radiologic Technology Week, November 7-13<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who\u2019s Who This Month in Health Care<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll find <strong>medical-surgical nurses<\/strong> caring for our patients as they recover from surgery or while they\u2019re acutely ill. Our Kelemen teams provide wound care, dialysis, telemetry monitoring, and more. They also offer medical and nursing support to patients and their support team during times of illness, crisis, and distress.<\/p>\n<p>Our <strong>Patient Transport team<\/strong> compassionately fulfills the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to their destinations. This allows our care teams to provide treatment and other services efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>Our <strong>Medical Staff Services team<\/strong> focuses on patient safety and ensuring excellence across the Cooper team. From provider credentialing and privileging to accreditation and regulatory compliance, this team stays ahead of state and federal requirements so that Cooper is always providing our patients and their families with the best care possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allied health professionals<\/strong> at Cooper can be found at every location, from Willingboro to Voorhees, Camden to Sewell, and more. Chances are you may know an allied health professional by a different name: Dietitians, medical technologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, radiographers, respiratory therapists, speech language pathologists, and more! They\u2019re an important part of the multidisciplinary approach to care that you\u2019ll find at Cooper.<\/p>\n<p>National Compliance Week was established to shine a spotlight on the importance of compliance and ethics. Cooper is dedicated to conducting its mission of providing high-quality health care in accordance with the highest levels of business ethics and in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and requirements. We do this by detecting and preventing healthcare fraud, waste and abuse, as well as protecting the privacy of our patients and employees. Thank you to our Cooper <strong>Compliance team<\/strong> for all they do!<\/p>\n<p>The theme for this year\u2019s National Nurse Practitioner Week is \u201cNPs: Going the Extra Mile.\u201d Cooper\u2019s <strong>nurse practitioners (NPs)<\/strong> are advanced practice providers who can diagnose and treat a variety of illnesses. They also focus on health promotion and disease prevention.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper\u2019s NPs provide care in primary, acute, and specialty settings, as well as in patient homes, and work collaboratively with all members of the health care team. NPs focus on health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling to help patients make healthier lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n<p>With clinical expertise, NPs provide a full range of services including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking medical histories<\/li>\n<li>Conducting physical exams<\/li>\n<li>Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions<\/li>\n<li>Ordering and interpreting tests<\/li>\n<li>Developing treatment plans<\/li>\n<li>Prescribing medications and non-pharmacologic treatment<\/li>\n<li>Performing procedures<\/li>\n<li>Conducting clinical research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can learn more about their role <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/ehealth\/2019\/02\/06\/advanced-practice-providers-understanding-the-members-of-the-health-care-team\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Radiation technology is an important part of your health, from diagnosis through treatment. Cooper <strong>radiation technology teams<\/strong> that use radiation technology include radiation therapists, dosimetrists, nuclear medicine technicians, breast imaging specialists, and more. Without the role of diagnostic imaging and the technologists who are trained to perform it, many illnesses and injuries would be much more difficult to diagnose and treat. This past year alone, Cooper\u2019s Radiology team performed more than 286,000 exams.
