pressure.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">his eating plan, which promotes a diet rich in vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy, and whole grains but limits red and processed meats and sweetened beverages, also turns out to prevent the formation of kidney stones,\u201d Dr. Seftel explains.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Symptoms of Kidney Stones<\/h3>\n<p>Signs you may have a kidney stone that is on the move can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Severe, sharp pain in the side and back, below the ribs.<\/li>\n<li>Pain radiating to the lower abdomen and groin.<\/li>\n<li>Pain that comes in waves and varies in intensity.<\/li>\n<li>Pain or a burning sensation when urinating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>People with kidney stones may also experience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pink, red, or brown urine.<\/li>\n<li>Cloudy or foul-smelling urine.<\/li>\n<li>The persistent urge to urinate, urinate more often than usual, or urinate in smaller amounts.<\/li>\n<li>Nausea and vomiting.<\/li>\n<li>Fever and chills, which are signs of infection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>When to See a urine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to consult your health care provider if you experience any of these symptoms,\u201d Dr. Seftel urges. \u201cYour physician can determine the cause of the symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>How Kidney Stones Are Treated<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cDepending on their location and size, there are several ways to treat kidney stones,\u201d Dr. Seftel says. \u201cIn minor cases, your health care provider may recommend over-the-counter pain relievers and increased water consumption to speed the flushing of the stone through your system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/extracorporeal-shock-wave-lithotripsy-eswl\">Shock wave lithotripsy<\/a> is a noninvasive procedure that uses sound waves to blast the stone into fragments that are easier to pass.
