Memorial Day is almost here. It\u2019s a day of remembrance and gratitude for the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving our country. It is a time to pay tribute to their courage and selflessness and honor their memory with solemnity and respect.<\/p>\n

At Cooper University Health Care, honoring the fallen and caring for our active duty military and veterans throughout our community is a top priority.<\/p>\n

Since 2017, Cooper University Health Care<\/a> and Deborah Heart and Lung Center have partnered to bring convenient and expedited access to specialty\u00a0health care services to active duty military, retirees, veterans, and their families through\u00a0HeroCare Connect<\/a>. The program serves as a medical concierge service for active duty military stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to supplement the outstanding primary, gynecologic, and pediatric care currently available on base.<\/p>\n

HeroCare Connect draws from the combined medical offerings of both Cooper and Deborah, which together provide care in more than 75 medical specialties in more than 110 convenient offices throughout South and Central Jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeroCare Connect is an essential service for the thousands of people on base who can\u2019t afford downtime for medical clearances,\u201d says Christine Carlson-Glazer, MPH, Vice President, Government and Community Relations, Deborah Heart and Lung Center.\u00a0\u201cWe, along with Cooper, are committed to supporting the medical needs of America\u2019s heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

How HeroCare Connect Works<\/h3>\n

For active duty or retired military and family members, when an on-base primary care provider makes a referral for specialty care, military patients have access to a specialist within 24 to 48 hours through HeroCare Connect.<\/p>\n

\u201cMedical care can be complex, sometimes involving more than one specialist to come up with the right treatment plan,\u201d says Louis Bezich, MPP<\/a>, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Cooper University Health Care. \u201cThrough HeroCare Connect, veterans and military families have the expertise of two hospitals working together to provide convenient health care for them and their families who serve, or have served, our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The HeroCare Connect Patient Service Center has specially trained staff to navigate care, including scheduling appointments, following up with results and reports, coordinating additional testing, and communicating with medical and military professionals who are involved with each patient\u2019s care.<\/p>\n

Veterans and their family members covered by the Veterans Choice Program (VCP) can take advantage of this personalized concierge program when their primary care physician at the VA recommends testing or a visit with a specialist. With a referral, patients can call HeroCare Connect and the team secures a convenient priority appointment, verifies insurance, and obtains and transfers all relevant medical records. The HeroCare Connect team can even arrange transportation, if needed.<\/p>\n

More than 176,000 veterans live in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties. HeroCare Connect encourages you to help spread the word about the program and let other veterans, active duty military, and their families know how easy it is to access these services.<\/p>\n
