Injuries and diseases\u00a0 affect a child&#8217;s growing body much differently than an adult.\u00a0 For example, for all exams using x-rays, or CT scans, extra precautions should be taken to minimize exposure dose while maintaining high image quality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/ChildrensHospital.htm\">The Children\u2019s Regional Hospital at Cooper<\/a> wants you to know that for children needing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/radiology.htm\">radiology imaging services<\/a>, Cooper University Radiology is staffed with fellowship-trained pediatric radiologists who specialize in the unique needs of children.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->A pediatric radiologist is an expert in the diagnosis of illnesses, injuries, and diseases of infants, children, and adolescents, using imaging techniques and equipment. Pediatric radiologists are specially trained to understand the unique needs of children, parents, and pediatricians in the diagnostic process. They have detailed knowledge of illnesses and medical conditions of infants and children. Their equipment, procedures, and staff are oriented to the special needs of children. Pediatric radiologists work as part of a diagnostic team along with your pediatrician or pediatric specialist to provide the best possible care for your child.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the\u00a0 Children\u2019s Regional Hospital at Cooper \u2013 a state-designated children\u2019s hospital \u2013 our specifically trained pediatric radiologists ensure a higher level of service and care for pediatric patients and pediatricians alike.\u00a0 Along with a degree from medical school and clinical training in diagnostic radiology, pediatric radiologists have one or more additional years of training in the diagnosis of infants and children using imaging equipment. In addition, at Cooper, they are certified by the American Board of Radiology and have additional certification in their subspecialty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/FindAPhysician.htm?mem_id=993\">Emily D. Scattergood, M.D.<\/a>, Head, Pediatric Imaging, has been named a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/TopDocs_SJ_magazine_for_kids.htm\">Top Doc for Kids<\/a> by <em>SJ Magazine<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/topdocs_south_jersey_children.htm\">top children\u2019s physician<\/a> by <em>South Jersey Magazine<\/em> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/content\/topdocs_phillymag.htm\">Next Generation of Great Philadelphia Doctors<\/a> by <em>Philadelphia <\/em>Magazine.\u00a0 She graduated from Temple University School of Medicine, completed a residency at Bryn Mawr Hospital and a fellowship at St. Christopher\u2019s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pa.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas J. Presenza, D.O., another board certified radiologist, completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at The Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia, Pa. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed an internship in internal medicine at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Va. and his residency in radiology at Temple University Hospital. He served as a U.S. Marine Corps flight surgeon completing a tour of duty in Kuwait and Iraq.
