Fortunately, heart complications associated with cancer treatments are very rare.<\/p>\n<p>Practicing good nutrition is one way to help reduce the risk of heart damage and other side effects during chemotherapy and radiation. Remember to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol.<\/li>\n<li>Choose low-fat protein sources such as lean meat, poultry, fish, low-fat dairy products, egg whites, and legumes.<\/li>\n<li>Eat more vegetables and fruits.<\/li>\n<li>Select whole grains.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce salt in your food.<\/li>\n<li>Limit alcohol.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce stress.<\/li>\n<li>Be physically active every day \u2013 getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity five or more days per week can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to improving heart health, good nutrition can also boost the immune system, aid in the healing process, and enhance quality of life.
