MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is proud to participate in the American Cancer Society\u2019s 43rd annual Great American Smokeout\u00ae on Thursday, November 15. We encourage our employees, patients and the community to commit or recommit to healthy, smoke-free lives \u2013 not just for a day, but year-round.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us know all too well the devastating impact tobacco can have on our health. Cigarette smoking, vaping and e-cigarettes are the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, accounting for 29 percent of all cancer deaths. Yet, 37.8 million American adults still use tobacco products. The most important thing YOU can do to improve your health is to quit using tobacco and other inhalation products.<\/p>\n<p>We also know addiction to nicotine is one of the strongest and most deadly addictions one can have. Quitting is hard. It takes commitment and starts with a plan, often takes more than one quit attempt, and requires a lot of support. Getting help through counseling and\/or prescription medications can double or triple the chances of quitting successfully. The tobacco cessation specialists at MD Anderson at Cooper are available to provide support and guide you through your journey.
