We are proud to play an integral\u00a0role in the city\u2019s revitalization, making Camden a better, safer, and healthier place to live and work.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past five years, Camden has experienced an unprecedented\u00a0renaissance in economic growth and vitality. Evidence of this\u00a0resurgence can be seen in the public schools, in safer neighborhoods,\u00a0and in a blossoming business environment. The city\u2019s business\u00a0community is rapidly expanding and thriving, with major corporations\u00a0\u2013 including Holtec International, Subaru of America, and\u00a0New Jersey American Water \u2013 relocating their U.S. headquarters to Camden.<\/p>\n<p>The education and medicine sectors (eds and meds) have also\u00a0expanded, accounting for 40 percent of all jobs in Camden. Flagship\u00a0educational institutes such as Rutgers University and Cooper\u00a0Medical School of Rowan University are providing the platforms\u00a0for the next generation of industry leaders. Anchor health care\u00a0institutions such as Cooper are regional leaders in providing\u00a0advanced health care services.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to the City of Camden, Cooper has experienced significant growth that has contributed to Camden\u2019s rebirth:<\/p>\n<h2>Expansion on the Cooper Health Sciences Campus<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to improvements on the Cooper campus in 2018 \u2013updated landscaping, street banners, pedestrian crossings, and<br \/>\nparks \u2013 we\u2019ve also made some major upgrades:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New Helipad \u2013 Late last year we renovated the helipad that supports Cooper\u2019s Trauma and Critical Care transport services. New safety enhancements help us better serve our patients\u00a0needing these advanced life-saving services.<\/li>\n<li>New Operating Rooms \u2013 To meet the demand for surgical services\u00a0(an increase of 49 percent from 2011 to 2017), we\u2019ve added eight<br \/>\nnew operating rooms at the hospital\u2014bringing the number\u00a0of ORs system-wide to 38.<\/li>\n<li>Emergency Room Addition \u2013 A 5,500 square-foot addition to\u00a0the Cooper Emergency Department has reduced wait times and improved patients\u2019 experience.<\/li>\n<li>New Outpatient Diagnostic Mammography Center \u2013 MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper opened a new outpatient diagnostic mammography center on our Camden campus.<\/li>\n<li>New Power Plant \u2013 A new power plant is under construction that will provide efficient power to all Cooper\u2019s city facilities and ensure the hospital has power to operate during public power outages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Expanding Our Clinical Services<\/h2>\n<p>Cooper continues to grow new programs and services, giving\u00a0the region access to a depth and breadth of high-quality care that\u2019s unrivaled in Southern New Jersey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cooper University Health Medical Staff Expansion \u2013 As the only academic medical center based in South Jersey, Cooper<br \/>\nemploys more than 630 physicians and surgeons in more\u00a0than 75 specialties.<\/li>\n<li>MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper \u2013 A partnership with the nation\u2019s leading cancer center makes us the top provider<br \/>\nof cancer services in South Jersey, with approximately\u00a0100,000 patient visits each year.<\/li>\n<li>Cooper\u2019s Early Intervention Program (EIP) \u2013 This vital\u00a0program provides early diagnosis, compassionate medical\u00a0care, and support services\u2014regardless of ability to pay \u2013 to\u00a0those affected by HIV in the region. Our Camden location has recently undergone substantial renovation and expansion.<\/li>\n<li>Specialized Health Care for the Military and First Responders \u2013\u00a0Cooper is committed to providing the highest quality of care\u00a0for those who put their lives on the line for others. Cooper\u00a0offers several programs dedicated to keeping members of the\u00a0military, their families, veterans, as well as first responders\u00a0healthy while providing timely appointments and access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Providing Jobs for the Community<\/h2>\n<p>As the largest employer of Camden residents, Cooper is\u00a0continually investing in our community through education, job creation, and career training. Workforce initiatives include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical Assistant Training Program \u2013 This program was established by Cooper to fill the need for entry-level medical\u00a0assistants in Camden. Upon completion of the program,\u00a0trainees receive full-time employment at Cooper or at\u00a0another health care system in Camden.<\/li>\n<li>Cooper Health Care Careers\u00a0Initiative \u2013 A partnership with\u00a0Camden County and HopeWorks\u00a0provides free medical-coding\u00a0training for Camden residents.\u00a0Trainees who complete the\u00a0program are offered medical coding\u00a0jobs at Cooper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Giving Back to the\u00a0Community<\/h2>\n<p>To improve quality of life for\u00a0the children of Camden,\u00a0the Cooper Foundation has\u00a0undertaken countless initiatives that give back to the community. Some of these initiatives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promoting healthy lifestyles through Camden Health &amp; Athletic Association (CHAA) youth sports programs.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating the free, family-friendly, annual Summer in the City Music Festival concert series, now in its 8th year.<\/li>\n<li>Donating backpacks filled with school supplies ensuring that\u00a0underserved youth have the tools for success.<\/li>\n<li>Cooper opened an innovative school based health clinic at\u00a0the KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy to provide sick and well visits for students at KIPP, Wiggins School, and Center for\u00a0Family Services Head Start students.<\/li>\n<li>Cooper\u2019s partnership and role with the KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy has seen the renaissance school grow to 3 schools<br \/>\nserving more than 1,300 students K through 8th grades.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A collaboration between key stakeholders has improved\u00a0the quality of life in Camden. Notably:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Our neighborhoods are safer: the crime rate is at a 50-year\u00a0low due to an aggressive community-policing program.<\/li>\n<li>High school graduation rates have increased 22 percent,\u00a0along with greater interest in higher education.<\/li>\n<li>Camden\u2019s poverty rate has dropped 25 percent, as more\u00a0residents are getting back to work at jobs that didn\u2019t\u00a0exist in previous years.
