Read on to learn more!<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-rygb\">Roux-en-Y gastric bypass<\/a>, simply referred to as RYGB, is a permanent weight-loss solution that provides timely and long-lasting results. Within the first 12\u201318 months after surgery, patients often lose 50% to 75% of their excess body weight.<\/p>\n<p>During your procedure, the surgeon will reduce the size of your stomach so that it is roughly the size of an egg. Afterward, the surgeon reattaches the stomach to the intestine. This minimally invasive procedure greatly improves the patient\u2019s metabolism.<\/p>\n<h3>Is it right for me?<\/h3>\n<p>For many patients with pre-existing health conditions, RYGB may be the weight-loss surgery of choice. RYGB can greatly reduce the effects of conditions such as diabetes.<\/p>\n<h2>Choosing Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG)<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re opting for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-vsg\">vertical sleeve gastrectomy<\/a>, or VSG, you won\u2019t just be reducing the size of your stomach. You\u2019ll actually have a large portion of it completely removed. Fortunately, this doesn\u2019t change the way food is processed by your body or how it passes into your intestines.<\/p>\n<p>Within the first two to five years after VSG, many patients lose 50% to 60% of their excess weight.<\/p>\n<h3>Is it right for me?<\/h3>\n<p>This type of weight-loss surgery is often suggested for people with a BMI of over 40. The procedure can\u2019t be reversed, but it has proven, lasting effects.<\/p>\n<h2>Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (LAGB)<\/h2>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/laparoscopic-adjustable-gastric-band-lagb\">laparoscopic adjustable gastric band<\/a>, sometimes called a \u201clap-band,\u201d produces gradual results.<\/p>\n<p>During the procedure, the surgeon places a small band (almost like a bracelet) around the top of the stomach. The band restricts how much a person can eat. The band can be tightened to provide as much restriction as you desire. However, the full effects, which amount to a 45% to 72% drop in weight, may take three to six years.<\/p>\n<h3>Is it right for me?<\/h3>\n<p>The LAGB is a good choice for any patient who is seeking a reversible treatment; however, it is not one offered by the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center.
