This strategy involves the principles of inclusion, as breastfeeding holds importance for all types of families, from all types of communities, and for all types of parents. Cooper is positioned to provide equitable and culturally congruent breastfeeding care by adopting the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, and encouraging open and non-judgmental conversations about plans for breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is natural but may not always be easy. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to get help. Hospital Policies.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not promoting infant formula, bottles or teats.<\/li>\n<li>Making breastfeeding care standard practice.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping track of support for breastfeeding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Staff Competency.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training staff on supporting mothers to breastfeed.<\/li>\n<li>Assessing health workers\u2019 knowledge and skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. Antenatal [Prenatal] Care. <\/strong>Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discussing the importance of breastfeeding for babies and mothers.<\/li>\n<li>Preparing women in how to feed their baby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Care Right After Birth. <\/strong>Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Encouraging skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby soon after birth.<\/li>\n<li>Helping mothers to put their baby to the breast right away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Supporting Mothers With Breastfeeding.<\/strong>\u00a0Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Checking positioning, attachment, and suckling.<\/li>\n<li>Giving practical breastfeeding support.<\/li>\n<li>Helping mothers with common breastfeeding problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6. Supplementing.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giving only breast milk unless there are medical reasons.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritizing donor human milk when a supplement is needed.<\/li>\n<li>Helping mothers who want to formula feed to do so safely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7. Rooming-In.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letting mothers and babies stay together day and night.<\/li>\n<li>Making sure that mothers of sick babies can stay near their baby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>8. Responsive Feeding.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Helping mothers know when their baby is hungry.<\/li>\n<li>Not limiting breastfeeding times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9. Bottles, Teats, and Pacifiers.<\/strong> Hospitals support mothers to breastfeed by&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Council mothers on the use and risks of feeding bottles, teats, and pacifiers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10.
