CAMDEN, N.J. – The Cooper Foundation today announced it received a $2,200 donation from South Jersey Federal Credit Union (SJFCU) to support ovarian cancer care at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.
“We are incredibly thankful to the employees of South Jersey Federal Credit Union for selecting MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper as the beneficiary of their Charitable Journey employee giving program,” said Susan Bass Levin, President and CEO of the Cooper Foundation and an ovarian cancer survivor. “By joining together in the fight against ovarian cancer, we can help save lives.”
Representatives from SJFCU presented the Cooper Foundation with the check today. Charitable Journey is an employee sponsored charity program in which any SJFCU employee can nominate a worthy organization for which to donate money. A different charity is selected each quarter and funds are then raised by employees. As an incentive to donate, SJFCU employees who contribute are permitted to dress down for charity on Fridays.
“With MD Anderson Cooper, we are fortunate to have one of the country’s leading cancer centers right here in South Jersey,” said Camille E. Gadsden, Director of Accounting at SJFCU. “Ovarian cancer claims the lives of too many women, and our employees share Cooper’s commitment to beating this disease.”
Ovarian cancer accounts for about 3 percent of cancers among women, but it causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system, according to the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society estimates that 22,280 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer and about 14,240 women will die from the disease this year.
“We are extremely grateful to the South Jersey Federal Credit Union for this generous donation,” said David Warshal, M.D., Head of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at MD Anderson Cooper. “The more support we have to fight ovarian cancer, the closer we come to conquering the disease.”
Warshal was joined by Generosa Grana, M.D., Executive Director of MD Anderson Cooper.
“At MD Anderson Cooper, we work each and every day to identify new diagnostic and treatment approaches for fighting ovarian cancer,” said Generosa Grana, M.D. “This donation from South Jersey Federal Credit Union will help us enhance care for patients with ovarian cancer and their families.”
