Local Non-Profit Donates $30,000 for Cooper’s Littlest Patients

On Sept. 25, 2019, representatives from Help Women and Children Now (HWCN), a non-profit organization based in Haddonfield, visited Cooper University Health Care to present a $30,000 to provide cardiac screenings to newborns in Cooper’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

This represents the proceeds of a youth-run event, The SoFISHticated Gala, held at the Adventure Aquarium held earlier this year. HWCN was started in 2006 by the Hurly family, in memory of their son, Stephen Michael, who passed away from complications of heart disease and premature birth at 5 weeks old.

Their mission is to support research of premature births and pediatric heart disease and to provide direct assistance to local families in medical crisis. They also strive to mentor high school-aged young adults to understand the importance of getting involved in their community while fighting for a worthy cause.
