On Saturday, December 1, Ronak Gor, DO, presented “It Takes a Village: Transitioning the Adult Spina Bifida Patient” to attendees of the New Jersey Chapter of American College of Surgeons 67th Annual Clinical Symposium. Dr. Gor, faculty in the Urology Residency, is Director of Genitourinary Trauma and Reconstruction at Cooper University Health Care and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). The goal of the symposium is to bring together the academic urologic programs in New Jersey to highlight some of the unique care that is being delivered. It is attended by academic urologists across the state.
Cooper University Health Care is one of the few centers in the country with a dedicated program for adults with congenital urologic conditions. Dr. Gor’s presentation made clear that there is a great need for advanced urologic care for adult patients with congenital urologic conditions, and that these complex patients often need multi-disciplinary care in an effort to maximize their health and well-being.
In addition to traditional reconstructive urology and prosthetics, Dr. Gor has a particular focus on the medical and surgical management of advanced neurogenic bladder. He is well versed in both continent and incontinent urinary diversion, complex abdominal surgery, and treating complications after prior surgery. He is also passionate about the emerging field of transitional urology, taking care of adolescents with congenital neurogenic bladder transitioning into adulthood.
