In November, Cooper’s Dr. Pauline Germaine, Diagnostic Radiologist and Women’s Imaging Specialist, and Dr. Robyn Roth, Head of the Division of Breast Imaging at Cooper, attended the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago with Dr. Maria C. Sciotto, a third-year resident in Cooper’s Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. The RSNA meeting is one of the largest Radiology meetings in the world and attracted over 50,000 people this year.
Dr. Roth, who is also the Women’s Imaging Fellowship Director, shared her experience with us:
“We presented our experiences at RSNA using contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) in our educational exhibit entitled, Contrast-Enhanced Spectral Mammography: Lessons Learned From Early Clinical Implementation. We were thrilled to be awarded a Certificate of Merit for our presentation, awarded to the top 5 percent of presentations. Dr. Sciotto, along with our former resident Dr. Chandni Bhimani, presented our experience with assessment of tumor response following chemotherapy using CESM.
“Cooper is one of the pioneers of contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), having performed almost 3,000 cases since 2012. We are the only institution in the area to offer this amazing technology, which combines mammography with intravenous contrast administration to create a picture similar to an MRI.
“One of the highlights of the conference included trying out new Virtual Reality goggles, that let you project a patient’s breast MRI onto the patient during the biopsy to help localize the lesion virtually. Aside from being an amazing technology, it also provided a great photo op.
“Despite blizzard conditions, we were able to enjoy some of the fantastic shopping and dining that Chicago has to offer. We hope to go back to RSNA again next year!”
