While his famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/sports\/more-sports\/dr-martin-luther-king-i-have-a-dream-full-speech\/vi-BB1cQYJt\">\u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech<\/a> was 58 years ago, his message is more present and pressing today than ever. After the events of last week, we must, in Dr. King\u2019s words, choose chaos or community. We can\u2019t necessarily just hope that everyone comes together; it will take dreaming a new world.<\/p>\n<p>He based his \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech on a Langston Hughes poem called \u201cI Dream a World.\u201d It inspired many of the metaphors, political overtones and themes King employed.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/allpoetry.com\/I-Dream-A-World\">I Dream A World<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nI dream a world where man<br \/>\nNo other man will scorn,<br \/>\nWhere love will bless the earth<br \/>\nAnd peace its paths adorn<br \/>\nI dream a world where all<br \/>\nWill know sweet freedom&#8217;s way,<br \/>\nWhere greed no longer saps the soul<br \/>\nNor avarice blights our day.<br \/>\nA world I dream where black or white,<br \/>\nWhatever race you be,<br \/>\nWill share the bounties of the earth<br \/>\nAnd every man is free,<br \/>\nWhere wretchedness will hang its head<br \/>\nAnd joy, like a pearl,<br \/>\nAttends the needs of all mankind-<br \/>\nOf such I dream, my world!<\/p>\n<p>This was Langston Hughes\u2019s favorite poem; he used it to close all his readings. It is hope in the chaos and it attends to our needs, as a good poem does.
