(Camden, New Jersey) The Cooper Health System has appointed retired U.S. Magistrate Judge Joel B. Rosen as General Counsel. In this role, Mr. Rosen will oversee all legal issues related to the operation of Cooper, and provide advice and representation to help Cooper fulfill its mission and meet its goals. He will assume his new role at Cooper effective October 1, 2009.
“Mr. Rosen has had a long and distinguished career both as a practicing lawyer and as a Judge,” said John P. Sheridan, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer at Cooper. “During these very complex times for the U.S. health care industry, we are pleased to have someone with such a wealth of legal experience joining our leadership team.”
Mr. Rosen is currently a partner in the law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker and Rhoads, LLP in Cherry Hill. He concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, public and private mediation and internal investigations.
Prior to joining Montgomery, McCracken, Walker and Rhoads, Mr. Rosen was a United States Magistrate Judge in Camden, an appointment he held for nearly 20 years. During his time on the bench, he mediated thousands of cases, presided over numerous civil jury and bench trials and criminal misdemeanor trials.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Rosen served as an Assistant United States Attorney and was the Attorney-in-Charge of the United States Attorney’s Office in Camden, New Jersey. During his tenure, he received several commendations from the Department of Justice for his efforts in connection with prosecutions involving organized crime and political corruption. He is also a former Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice where he was Chief of the Special Prosecutions Section.
Mr. Rosen received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and currently serves as an adjunct faculty member of the school.
