CNN.com posted an article discussing how some mothers have a difficult time breastfeeding their newborn child. However, breastfeeding is extremely important to the health of the baby, especially for the first six months, says Lori B. Feldman-Winter, MD, Head, Adolescent Medicine at Cooper, and a committee member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
There are tips that mother’s can use to ease the pain and increase the milk supply for their baby without having to give up breastfeeding, but it’s important for all parties, including the nurses and pediatricians to be well educated.
“We’re getting better at training residents to learn more about breast-feeding, but we still have a ways to go,” says Feldman-Winter.
