This week, Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson had a seizure while at practice. Medical tests have indicated Patterson has arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a rare congenital condition of abnormal connections between arteries and veins in the brain that short-circuits the flow of oxygen-rich blood.
H. Warren Goldman, MD, PhD, Chief of Neurosurgery at Cooper University Hospital and Director of the Cooper Neurological Institute and Gamma Knife Center, has treated hundreds of patients with AVM and spoke with the Philadelphia Inquirer and Courier-Post yesterday to provide information on the condition and its treatment.
