Cooper University Health Care is promoting Camden pride and supporting the work of local entrepreneurs by selling a line of specialty designed Camden-pride T-shirts in the hospital’s gift shop.
The T-shirts are the product of three fellow veterans—Ajeenah “AJ” Riggs, Eric Powell and Lionel McElwee—who own and operate a clothing store called 1216 Haddon, located in the city’s Parkside neighborhood. Their mission for the store was to help change the perception of Camden, while providing positive mentorship to teens in the process. As a champion of Camden’s revitalization efforts, Cooper supports the work of local businesses.
“Having the shirts displayed and sold in our gift shop was a great opportunity to share Cooper’s pride in our city with the many visitors coming through our doors each day,” said Stephanie D. Conners, MBA, BSN, NEA-BC, Senior Executive Vice President, Hospital Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Cooper.
“We are excited to be working with Cooper on this project,” said Riggs. “The reception for our shirts has been very positive, and we are grateful to organizations like Cooper who are supporting small businesses in the community like ours.”
Each shirt was designed onsite at the store by Powell or by local teens interested in learning about retail, silk screening, fashion design and other aspects of developing a clothing line. The T-shirts are currently selling at Cooper for $19.99 in the gift shop.
