(Camden) — MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper unveiled a new, expanded infusion center on Friday, November 4, 2016, for patients needing chemotherapy and other infusion treatments.
The $3.3 million expansion, located on the third floor of MD Anderson Cooper, nearly doubles the treatment area available for patients from 18 infusion bays and two private rooms to 32 bays and four private rooms.
“This is another exciting day demonstrating how our partnership with the number one cancer center in the nation, MD Anderson, is transforming cancer care for the people of South Jersey and the region,” said Adrienne Kirby, PhD, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Cooper University Health Care. “The expanded infusion center will allow us to serve the thousands of people who have chosen to stay in New Jersey for the very best cancer care available.”
“When we first built the cancer center, we designed the facility with shell space to accommodate future growth,” said Generosa Grana, MD, FACP, director of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. “The new center offers the most advance care in a relaxing contemporary atmosphere with abundant light, soothing colors, and amenities for the comfort of the patient’s family member or caregiver.”
In three years since its opening, MD Anderson Cooper has undergone several expansion projects to further provide the most advance cancer care and services. In May 2015, the Janet Knowles Breast Cancer Center opened on the second floor of the of the cancer center. In July 2016, a new $13.5 million, 30-bed inpatient oncology unit opened on the 5th Floor of the Roberts Pavilion at Cooper University Hospital across the street from the cancer center – a total investment in Cooper’s Camden cancer facilities of nearly $17 million this year.
Since opening, MD Anderson Cooper has experienced 20 percent growth in cancer volume. This growth has been a driver in overall growth at Cooper and its more than 100 outpatient facilities, with more than 1.4 million patient visits in 2015.
