Dr. Lourdes Alanis
Lourdes Alanis, MD, MPH, a third-year medical resident at Cooper University Health Care, won the SIR Case Competition during the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 2017 Conference held in Washington, D.C., in March.
Dr. Alanis’ case presentation, titled “Aortocoronary Saphenous Vein Graft Pseudoaneurysm Presenting as an Anterior Mediastinal Mass,” was selected as the winner among the 70 cases submitted nationally. The presentation addressed the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and use of multimodalities (i.e., Computed Tomography, Echocardiography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to correctly diagnose and treat graft pseudoaneurysms (contained blood vessel wall injuries) which are rare complications following coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
“I dedicate this accomplishment to all the Cooper University Health Care Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology attending physicians and fellow colleagues who provide daily words of wisdom and encouragement to pursue my academic and career goals,” said Dr. Alanis, who is completing her residency in radiology.
As part its mission to serve, to heal, to educate, Cooper offers more than 35 residency and fellowship training programs, approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
