Cooper Honors Employee John Bishop for Heroic Actions

Seniors leaders and staff of Cooper University Health Care gathered to celebrate Cooper employee John Bishop who heroically saved a woman who was being brutally attacked alongside a busy South Jersey highway June 6, 2019.

Putting his own safety aside and thanks to his quick actions, he was able to rescue the victim and subdue the perpetrator until police could arrive. Police credit him with saving the woman’s life.

“Every day Cooper employees save the lives of others. But what John did was over and above the call of duty. The entire senior leadership team commends John for his courageous actions,” said Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, Cooper’s co-president and CEO, at the celebration.

“John is a true hero. When he witnessed a person in need, he did not hesitate to act. We are proud to call him a member of the Cooper family,” added Kevin O’Dowd, JD, co-president and CEO of Cooper.

Bishop, a resident of Burlington Township, NJ, is a member of the Facilities Management Department at Cooper’s ambulatory facility in Voorhees, NJ. He has been an employee at Cooper for 11 years.

This was such a nice thing for Cooper to do.
Way to go Dr. Mazz and O’Dowd, you are truly making a difference here.

There are no coincidences, John. You were appointed by the Lord to that time and place where you saved the life –a life that God ordained — that was meant to be preserved for that person’s good and His glory. The Lord bless and keep you and your family.
