Top Hospital in South Jersey and Rated High Performing in Eight Procedures/Conditions

Cooper University Health Care was for the second year in a row recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-2023 Best Hospitals annual survey as a top regional hospital and top hospital in southern New Jersey. Cooper was also rated as a high-performing hospital nationally in eight procedures/conditions: Colon cancer surgery, heart failure, aortic valve surgery, heart attack, diabetes care, kidney failure treatment, stroke, and COPD treatment.

“The people of this region have come to trust Cooper University Health Care, as the only academic health system in South Jersey for providing the highest level of care. We are proud to, once again, be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a regional and national leader for quality care and positive patient outcomes,” said George E. Norcross III, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cooper Health System and Cooper University Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. “For 135 years, Cooper has been committed to the Camden region and its residents and the best is yet to come.”

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 33rd year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“Our team of clinical specialists and health care professionals are dedicated to providing advanced, quality care to our patients and this recognition by U.S. News & World Report as a top hospital is a testament to their passion and hard work,” said Kevin M. O’Dowd, JD, co-CEO of Cooper.

“These U.S. News & World Report designations attest to the clinical expertise of our team and give patients the confidence that when they choose Cooper, they can trust that they are getting advanced, compassionate care,” said Anthony J. Mazzarelli, MD, JD, MBE, co-CEO of Cooper.

For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. In the 15 specialties, 164 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. State and metro area rankings reflect the highest performing hospitals in the area across multiple areas of care.

“The hospitals named among the best have extensive medical expertise and a history of delivering good outcomes,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “When patients and their medical professionals are considering their options for care, the rankings are designed to help them identify hospitals that are superior in the kind of care they may need.”

U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.  For more information, visit Best Hospitals and use #BestHospitals on Facebook and Twitter.

MD Anderson and Cooper are the best in my opinion. Not only did MD Anderson save me from stage four metastatic melanoma throughout my body including my brain. Cooper Hospital also brought me back after having a heart attack. I feel safe and secure now thanks to MD Anderson and Cooper Hospital. Can’t thank them enough. The good Lord is looking down on those doctors and nurses with a big smile.
