Cooper University Health Care Rolls Out “Tablets for Veterans” Program to Improve Health Care Access

The program, funded by a $62,000 grant from Federal Communications Commission, will provide tablets to veterans who have difficulty getting to care at Cooper or Deborah Heart and Lung Center.  Many veterans live in rural communities or have transportation challenges so the tablets, pre-loaded with virtual links (MyChart and TelaDoc), to support their health care needs and allow them to communicate and have virtual visits with their providers. Researchers at Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University Earn Perfect Score on Federal Grant Application to Study Disparities in Doctor-Patient Relationships

Researchers at Cooper University Health Care and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) recently received a two-year grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to study disparities in doctor-patient relationships. Specifically, the study will use a scale that the researchers previously developed and validated to measure patients’ experience of compassion from doctors during clinic visits, and test for disparities in compassion by patient race and ethnicity as well as patient socioeconomic status. Cooper makes Forbes’ America’s Best Employers List in New Jersey for third consecutive year

For the third consecutive year, Cooper University Health Care was named one of America’s Best-in-State Employers by Forbes, the prominent national business publication. Cooper was one of only 12 health systems in New Jersey to make the Forbes list in 2023.

Cooper Innovation Center Receives $100,000 Grant to Study and Develop a New Pulmonary Drainage Device Invented by Cooper Physicians

(CAMDEN, NJ) – Cooper University Health Care’s Center for Innovation has received a $100,000 grant from the Foundation for Health Advancement (FHA) to study and develop a new body cavity evacuator used to drain fluid from the pleural space of the lungs.

The novel device, invented and developed by Cooper thoracic surgeon David Shersher, MD, FACS, and Cooper pulmonologist Wissam Abouzgheib, MD, has the potential to provide a more effective, less invasive way to drain fluid from the body than current methods. Read more.

Cooper University Health Care to Develop Comprehensive Program to Enhance Care for Patients With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

(CAMDEN, NJ) – Cooper University Health Care is developing a wide-ranging program to enhance care for patients with intellectual and development disabilities (I/DD) funded in part by a $2 million grant from the New Jersey Department of Health.

Cooper University Health Care First in the World to Use New Ultrasound Guided Technology to Examine and Diagnose Suspected Lung Cancer Lesions Sooner, Leading to Earlier Treatment

(CAMDEN, NJ) – Pulmonary experts at Cooper University Health Care were the first in the world to use Boston Scientific’s iNodTM Ultrasound Guided Biopsy Needle in conjunction with robotic bronchoscopy, a new tool used to investigate suspicious peripheral pulmonary lesions in the lung, potentially leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.

Peripheral pulmonary lesions are small suspicious growths located in distant outlying regions of the lung that are often hard to reach and biopsy due to their size and location. Read more.
