Today, Cooper University Hospital unveiled its new, expanded Emergency Department (ED) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for employees and visitors.<\/p>\nToday, Cooper University Hospital unveiled its new, expanded Emergency Department (ED) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for employees and visitors.<\/p>\n
The new facility is 33,000 square feet and includes 36 brand new, state-of-the-art patient rooms, including: designated adult and pediatric treatment and resuscitation rooms, two private triage rooms, a separate pediatric waiting room, and two decontamination rooms.\u00a0 The new walk-in entrance to the Emer gency Department has been relocated to the corner of Haddon and Benson Avenues, near the former main entrance to Cooper University Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether they arrive by car, ambulance or on foot, Cooper\u2019s Emergency Department is known widely for providing excellent care to patients with urgent medical problems,\u201d explains John P. Sheridan, Jr., President and CEO of Cooper.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve done this for a long time in space that was built to accommodate fifty percent of the patients we actually see in a year.\u00a0 This new, expanded space will allow our patients to have more privacy and comfort during their visits and allow our staff to work together more efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Emergency Department renovation which occurred in three phases is part of the $220 million hospital expansion. In 2009, Cooper treated 58,500 patients in an ED built to handle 25,000. With this most recent and final phase completed, Cooper now has a facility with the capacity to meet its patients\u2019 expanding needs.<\/p>\n
