Puri, MD<\/a>, Division Head, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/critical-care-medicine\">Critical Care Medicine<\/a> and Co-Medical Director, Center for Critical Care Medicine, was named a co-winner of Physician Healthcare Hero of the Year by NJBIZ magazine as part of the publication\u2019s annual Healthcare Heroes awards.<\/p>\n<p>According to the editors of NJBIZ, \u201cThis year has presented unique challenges to us all, but in the midst of a public health pandemic it\u2019s hard not to focus on those working on the \u2018front lines\u2019 of that fight, bringing an added sense of gravitas and appreciation to the 2020 NJBIZ Health Care Heroes Awards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to the unprecedented circumstances faced this year by workers in the health care industry, during its October 15, 2020, virtual celebration NJBIZ announced <strong>all of this year\u2019s finalists as winners for the 2020 Health Care Heroes Awards. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Physician of the Year Co-Winners<\/h2>\n<p><em>Dr. Nitin Puri<\/em><br \/>\nCooper University Health Care<\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Suraj Saggar<\/em><br \/>\nHoly Name Medical Center<\/p>\n<p><em>Lewis Rubinson<\/em><br \/>\nAtlantic Health System\u2019s Morristown Medical Center<\/p>\n<p><em>John Bonamo<\/em><br \/>\nRWJBarnabas Health<\/p>\n<p><em>Scott Lauter<\/em><br \/>\nAtlantic Medical Group<\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Daniel Varga<\/em><br \/>\nHackensack Meridian Health<\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Amar Bukhari<\/em><br \/>\nSaint Peter\u2019s University Hospital<\/p>\n<p>According to Stephen W. Trzeciak, MD, MPH, Chairman and Chief of the Department of Medicine at Cooper, \u201cDr. Puri leads from the front. He builds strong relationships with everyone on his team and always puts his team first. Building up his team and giving them credit is paramount to his leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of his exemplary and transformational leadership, Cooper has been able to achieve extraordinary outcomes under extreme and profound adversity,\u201d said Shannon Patel, a nursing leader at Cooper. \u201cIt is without exaggeration to proclaim that Dr. Puri&#8217;s extraordinary skillset, innate empathy, wholehearted compassion, and authentic leadership are vital to Cooper every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 has been the biggest challenge health care systems have experienced in a century.
