Today, Cooper joins our colleagues across the country in celebrating National Women Physicians Day, which is the birthday of\u00a0Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States in 1849.<\/p>\n

Women represent nearly half of all medical school graduates and assistant professors at academic institutions. Here at Cooper, 44% of our physicians are women. In recognition of the compassionate, quality care they provide and the many accomplishments they have achieved, Cooper\u2019s Women In Medicine group are proud to share the work of some of our women physicians with you.<\/p>\n

This year, we’re spotlighting four of these remarkable physicians: Carolyn Bekes, MD<\/a>;\u00a0Jocelyn Mitchell-Williams, MD, PhD<\/a>;\u00a0Annette Reboli, MD, and\u00a0Andrea M. Annette Reboli, MD<\/p><\/div>\n

Annette Reboli, MD<\/strong><\/h1>\n

is Dean of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) and a Professor of Medicine. As such, she is the Chief Academic Officer with ultimate responsibility for all areas of the school. A graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, she received her MD degree cum laude and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. She completed residency and a year as Chief Medical Resident in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, followed by a three-year clinical and research fellowship in infectious diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Prior to becoming Founding Vice Dean, she served as Interim Dean of CMSRU and was also the Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Deputy Chief for Administration of the Department of Medicine at Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ, where she also served as the hospital epidemiologist.<\/p>\n

Dr. Reboli is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She has authored or co-authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and abstracts. In 2008, she received the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Dean\u2019s Research Award in the faculty-clinical sciences category for research on antifungal therapy that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Over the course of her career, she has garnered over $15,000,000.00 in research support from a variety of sources, including NIH, NIAID, HRSA, private foundations, and private industry.<\/p>\n

She has received several teaching awards and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and the Philadelphia College of Physicians. She has been recognized by Who\u2019s Who and Best Doctors in America. \u00a0She served as the President of the Medical Staff of Cooper University Health Care from 2011 to 2015.\u00a0 In 2016, she received the Healthcare Provider of the Year award from the New Jersey Hospital Association.\u00a0 In 2018, she became a voting member of the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), the regulatory body for allopathic medical education in the United States.<\/p>\n

In June, Dr. Reboli will celebrate her 40th<\/sup> anniversary with her soul-mate, Dr. Peter Nigro. They live on a farm with their two cats, Chester and Leo, and 3 horses (Belle, Blaze, and Casey). They have 2 adult children, Lauren and Chris, who are both married and are now the proud grandparents of 19 month old Peter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
