Today, Cooper is honoring our hospitalists during National Hospitalist Day.\u00a0Hospitalists are doctors whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. They provide care to patients throughout their stay in the hospital, as well as education to students and residents, and leadership activities related to hospital medicine.<\/p>\n
This past year, Cooper\u2019s hospitalists partnered with other hospital-based groups as one of the lead specialties at the forefront of our COVID-19 response. They have gone above and beyond their normal duties, helping to lead frontline efforts, coordinating and carrying out complex clinical operations plans, and collaborating with providers and leaders from many different specialties to provide the best care possible to our patients.<\/p>\n
Hospital medicine was first founded at Cooper in 1998, as a section within the Division of General Internal Medicine. A distinct Division of Hospital Medicine was established in 2007. Cooper also offers a Hospital Medicine Fellowship and tailored electives for residents.\u00a0Division hospitalists act as physician advisors for the care coordination and utilization management teams. They also lead the Cooper and Inspira Internal Medicine Residency programs, and serve as inpatient medical faculty for both programs. Cooper\u2019s hospitalists serve in a number of leadership, faculty, and committee roles within Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.<\/p>\n
