On May 25, Cooper University Health Care trauma surgeon John Chovanes, DO, FACS<\/a>, was presented with The Meritorious Service Medal from the U.S. Army for the establishment of the Army Medical Department Military-Civilian Trauma Team Training (AMCT3) program at Cooper<\/a> and his selfless devotion to soldiers and unparalleled dedication to mission accomplishment. Dr. Chovanes is the founding medical director and chief surgeon of Cooper\u2019s Section of Military, Diplomatic, and Field Affairs<\/a>. U.S. Army trauma surgeon Colonel Kirby R. Gross, MD, FACS, presented the award.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In early 2019, Cooper, the region\u2019s leading academic health system, became the first trauma center in the nation to establish an AMCT3 program. The AMCT3 program provides opportunities for the Army\u2019s elite medical professionals to work in the nation\u2019s busiest trauma centers to sharpen their skills and support military medical readiness.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am humbled and honored by this recognition. We have an amazing team,\u201d said Dr. Chovanes.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to Dr. Chovanes on this incredibly well-deserved honor.\u00a0Dr. Chovanes has been the driving force behind the development of Cooper\u2019s military training programs, including the AMCT3, which provide the highest level of training to military medical corps to ensure they can effectively treat any case they may encounter in connection with their combat deployments,\u201d said Kevin O\u2019Dowd, JD, co-CEO of Cooper.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great honor for Dr. Chovanes who is a tremendous advocate for our trauma team \u2013 the busiest trauma team in the region \u2013 and their desire to share their expertise to train the men and women serving in our military to save lives on the battlefield,\u201d said Anthony J.
