{"id":13189,"date":"2023-05-09T11:42:36","date_gmt":"2023-05-09T15:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/?p=13189"},"modified":"2023-05-09T11:42:36","modified_gmt":"2023-05-09T15:42:36","slug":"cooper-innovation-center-partners-with-digicare-realized-to-accelerate-early-stage-alzheimers-detection-technology-for-commercialization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cooperhealth.org\/news\/2023\/05\/cooper-innovation-center-partners-with-digicare-realized-to-accelerate-early-stage-alzheimers-detection-technology-for-commercialization\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooper Innovation Center Partners with DigiCARE Realized To Accelerate Early-Stage Alzheimer\u2019s Detection Technology for Commercialization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CAMDEN, NJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.edu\/cooper-innovation-center\">Cooper University Health Care\u2019s Innovation Center<\/a> and DigiCARE Realized have signed a partnership agreement to test deployment and implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered technology designed to identify undiagnosed cases of early-stage Alzheimer\u2019s disease and related dementias.<\/p>\n<p>DigiCARE Realized, a virtual-first company with headquarters in Old Bridge, NJ, is an emerging AI-technology firm that commercializes evidence-based solutions for modernizing care for complex brain diseases like Alzheimer\u2019s disease and related dementias (ADRD).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to work collaboratively with DigiCARE Realized to further study and develop this technology, which has the potential to change the way we detect and treat Alzheimer\u2019s disease and other related conditions earlier in their course,\u201d said Bethann Mercanti, DSc, PA-C, Director of Clinical Operations at the Cooper Neurological Institute, who will serve as principal investigator for the project at Cooper. \u00a0\u201cAs a leading academic health system and the region\u2019s most-advanced program for treating neurological conditions, Cooper is proud to be on the forefront of advancing technology that may revolutionize Alzheimer\u2019s disease diagnosis and treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Researchers and clinicians from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/services\/neurological-institute\">Cooper\u2019s Neurological Institute (CNI)<\/a> will work with DigiCARE Realized\u2019s team to implement this innovative approach to standardize routine brain care and improve patient outcomes. The company\u2019s machine-learning technology is deployed through the hospital\u2019s electronic health records (EHR) system. The AI-technology processes routinely collected data, both structured and unstructured. This technology has demonstrated the ability to review high volumes of patient health records in hours versus what would take clinicians days to review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarly detection is a key step in timely and accurate diagnosis so that patients can get\u00a0emerging treatments and early-stage interventions,\u201d said Brittany Cassin, MBA, DigiCARE Realized CEO.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThis is an exciting and critical time in Alzheimer&#8217;s treatment given recent FDA-approved treatments and encouraging pipeline products.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This partnership demonstrates our collective commitment to modernizing care\u00a0in brain health for all patients,\u00a0especially where we know there is higher risk of Alzheimer&#8217;s disease in communities of color.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year Cassin was a finalist in the first-ever National Institute of Aging (NIA) Startup Challenge that focused on fostering diversity and innovation in treating aging conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The DigiCARE Realized technology detects patients with undiagnosed Alzheimer\u2019s disease and related forms of dementia, such as Lewy body dementia and frontotemporal dementia, with nearly 80 percent performance accuracy for approximately a 3-year prediction horizons.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States alone, Alzheimer\u2019s disease currently affects 6.5 million people and over 11 million caregivers. National costs are projected to reach $1 trillion by 2050. Current early detection approaches for Alzheimer\u2019s disease and other forms of cognitive diseases are not standardized or scalable for urban and rural communities. Data also suggest that nearly 50 percent of patients with Alzheimer\u2019s and other cognitive diseases are undiagnosed.
