Donation in Loving Memory of Susan Marie Rupp<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Family and friends of the late Susan Marie Rupp, of Clementon NJ, recently presented a check for $40,000 to The Cooper Foundation in honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The funds will support ovarian cancer research at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bravery and hope displayed by Susan during her treatment remains present. By supporting the nation\u2019s leading cancer research centers, such as MD Anderson at Cooper, Susan\u2019s legacy lives on and she will remain an advocate for ovarian cancer awareness for all women,\u201d said Norman R. Rupp, husband of Susan and Chairman of the Susan Marie Rupp (SMR) Foundation.<\/p>\n

Sadly, Susan passed away on July 30, 2010 at the age of 52. Each year since then, the SMR Foundation\u2019s volunteers hand out symptom information cards and tie teal ribbons throughout towns on lamp posts, mailboxes and fences.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to educate women on the often-vague symptoms of ovarian cancer and raise money for research in the hope that within our lifetime, others will not have to face the loss of a treasured loved one to this \u2018silent killer\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ongoing and generous support received from patients, families and the community propels research efforts and demonstrates the strong trust and confidence we all have in the MD Anderson at Cooper team to find a cure for ovarian cancer and improve outcomes for cancer patients,\u201d said Philip A. Norcross, Esq., chairman of The Cooper Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine a world where ovarian cancer is easier to detect and diagnose and where every woman touched by the disease is successfully treated,\u201d said Generosa Grana, MD, FACP, director of MD Anderson at Cooper. \u201cThe chances for successful ovarian cancer treatment are much higher if the cancer is caught early and diagnosed accurately. Research is key to helping us unlock the next generation of prevention, detection and treatment approaches for ovarian cancer. We do this for our daughters, sisters, mothers, loved ones and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s humbling when families touched by cancer choose to put their faith in us and support our efforts here at MD Anderson at Cooper,\u201d said David P. Warshal, MD, FACOG, head of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. \u201cOur patients have access to clinical trials offering promising new treatments that cannot be found anywhere else and this is thanks to those who support and donate to our research efforts\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis generous donation from the Susan Marie Rupp Foundation is timely, as it coincides with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and highlights how grassroots fundraising can make a real impact and contribute to the research that saves lives,\u201d said Robert A. Ortiz, Jr., J.D., senior vice president and chief philanthropy officer of the Cooper Foundation.<\/p>\n

Cooper\u2019s Gynecologic Cancer Center is the largest and most experienced gynecologic cancer treatment program in South Jersey. For more than three decades, the team of specialists has provided compassionate, advanced care to women with ovarian and other gynecologic cancers.<\/p>\n

The MD Anderson at Cooper team is constantly researching newer and more advanced ovarian cancer treatment, including working to understand it on the molecular and genetic level and offering targeted therapies and clinical trials only available at a few places in the nation.<\/p>\n
