This accreditation ensures that our sleep center consistently meets the highest standards of clinical practice, safety, and patient outcomes,\u201d said William R. Bradway, DO, FCCP, DABSM, director of Sleep Services at Cooper Cape Regional. \u201cThis is important because it gives our patients the confidence that they are receiving care from a facility that is regularly evaluated and held accountable to the latest advancements and guidelines in sleep medicine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Sleep Services at Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,\u201d said AASM President Dr. Eric J. Olson. \u201cAASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, giving patients confidence and peace of mind when they seek help for a sleep disorder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy. To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the sleep center\u2019s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves. The AASM accredited a sleep disorders center for the first time in 1977.
