She was well liked by not only the Radiology students, but also her peers and all those who encountered her at Cooper.  Joyce had made enormous contributions to the Department during her time at Cooper, but cancer took her life at an early age.<\/p>\n<p>She loved working with students and, to perpetuate her memory, her family started the Joyce Racer Scholarship Fund through the Cooper Foundation to be awarded annually to a deserving student in the School of Diagnostic Imaging\/Medical Radiography program.  To be considered for this award, the second-year student must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA, written a short essay on why she\/he chose the field of Medical Radiography including one or two points on what excited the student during their rotations in clinical education settings, and have their Clinical Instructors complete a form appraising  their professional characterizes as a Student Radiographer.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This year&#8217;s scholarship presentation was held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.  Martina Harris, Director of the School of Diagnostic Imaging, gave the short history of the Joyce Racer Scholarship.  Joan Dantonio, Director of the Center for Allied Health Education, said a few words on behalf of education itself.  Ray Baraldi, MD, Chairman of the Department of Radiology, gave a wonderful speech about the positive future of the Imaging field and how important education is to the Medical Imaging  field.   He then presented $1,500 scholarship awards to Stacey Gideon, Tiffany Hartley and Steven Schell.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joyce Racer was a Radiologic Technologist at Cooper University Hospital for 34 years.
