In addition to providing care for patients within the Division of Hematology\/Medical Oncology, Evelyn leads the cancer outreach team in educating the community about cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The outreach team also provides thousands of screenings for breast, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancers each year through the Camden County Cancer Education and Early Detection Program.<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn has also received numerous commendations from the community she serves and has been recognized by her peers as a leader in cancer outreach and education. In December 2003, she received an Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Living Beyond Breast Cancer Association; and in October 2004, a Service Award from the Association de Puertorriquenos en Marcha, Inc., for her outstanding community service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvelyn is an exceptional individual who possesses superior leadership skills,\u201d said Generosa Grana, M.D., and Director of the Cooper Cancer Institute. \u201cShe, and her outreach team, works to decrease the impact of cancer on the community focusing on early detection and treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn will be honored as part of the American Cancer Society\u2019s Celebration of Hope event which will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Camden River Sharks home game at Campbell\u2019s Field, in Camden, N.J. 08103.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Cooper Cancer Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the Cooper Cancer Institute (CCI), teams of doctors \u2013 medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons \u2013 work together to provide cancer patients with the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies available, access to groundbreaking clinical trials and dynamic patient-physician relationships.
