The Joint Commission\u2019s Top Performer on Key Quality Measures\u00ae program recognizes accredited hospitals that attain excellence on accountability measure performance. The program is based on data reported in the previous year about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to be the best treatments for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children\u2019s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, venous thromboembolism, and immunization.<\/p>\n

Cooper is the only academic medical center in South Jersey to receive this recognition. Overall, only about a third of the 3,300 Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that submitted quality data for 2012 were named to the list.<\/p>\n

For its report, The Joint Commission assessed the performance of accredited hospitals on 47 accountability measures of evidence-based care processes.<\/p>\n

“Top Performer” designations were then awarded based on the accountability measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma care, inpatient psychiatric services, venous thromboembolism (VTE) care, stroke care and immunization. Hospitals were required to select and report on four measure sets in 2012. Cooper submitted data in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.<\/p>\n
