Komen for the Cure Philadelphia Affiliate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Grana, a nationally renowned oncologist, has been selected as the 2009 Light of Life honoree by the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. Dr. Grana was chosen because she is \u201can extraordinary individual we feel represents the spark that brought the beacon to life, as well as the continuous source of inspiration that fuels its perpetual guidance in our community,\u201d explained Executive Director of Komen Philadelphia Affiliate, Elaine I. Grobman.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For many years, Dr. Grana has been a medical leader in the battle against breast cancer. Not only has she treated thousands of breast cancer patients, but she was also on the forefront of promoting genetic testing and counseling for women in the Delaware Valley. The outreach efforts of Dr. Grana and her team at Cooper Cancer Institute have impacted every cultural group in the community by raising women\u2019s awareness of the need for yearly PAP tests, mammograms and doctor\u2019s visits. Her determination and passion empowers everyone to fight against this disease and her success will benefit generations of women for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so very proud to have been selected as an honoree,\u201d said Dr. Grana. \u201cKomen does remarkable life-saving work in the fight against breast cancer. It is a privilege to work with them and to be honored by them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Philadelphia Affiliate has also chosen Cooper Cancer Institute to receive its 2009 Beacon of Hope Award. \u201cThis award recognizes CCI as a Komen partner who has been an exceptional leader and provider in the Delaware Valley\u2019s fight against breast cancer,\u201d said Ms. Grobman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Grana has spearheaded the growth of our cancer program and we are proud to celebrate this recognition with her and our cancer program,\u201d said John P.
