Komen Philadelphia\u00ae Community Grants Program to Support the Fight Against Breast and Other Cancers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooperhealth.org\/departments-programs\/cancer-institute\">MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper <\/a>received a $100,000 Screening\/ Treatment Grant from the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia\u00ae Community Grants Program to fund its Cancer Community Outreach Screening Program, which focuses on outreach, awareness and screening for breast and other cancers.<\/p>\n<p>Through this grant, MD Anderson Cooper\u2019s outreach and screening program will fund more than 300 mammogram screenings and cover the costs of diagnostic testing and lymphedema treatment for uninsured and underinsured residents of southern New Jersey. The grant will also help MD Anderson Cooper\u2019s program to educate 1,000 persons about the importance of cancer screening and cancer risk reduction through group education, and 2,500 through other one-on-one efforts. The grant period runs from April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud that Susan G. Komen Philadelphia shares our mission and has chosen to support our program. With these funds we will be able to provide even more women with greater access to breast health information and life-saving breast cancer screenings, and educate and screen both men and women for other cancer screening services\u201d said Evelyn Robles Rodrigues, RN, MSN, APN, AOCN, Director of Outreach, Prevention and Survivorship at MD Anderson Cooper.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper\u2019s Cancer Community-Outreach Program provided the following screenings at no cost to underinsured or uninsured men and women:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1,399 &#8211; Breast cancer screenings<\/li>\n<li>111 &#8211; Prostate cancer screening<\/li>\n<li>516 &#8211; Colorectal cancer screenings<\/li>\n<li>658 &#8211; Cervical cancer screenings<\/li>\n<li>29 &#8211; Oral cancer screenings<\/li>\n<li>127 &#8211; Skin cancer screenings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The screening program also hosted or participated in several hundred community education events throughout South Jersey to build awareness about cancer, to educate individuals about the importance of cancer screenings, and to enroll uninsured and underinsured men and women in cancer screening services.<\/p>\n<p>Susan G. Komen Philadelphia awarded a total of $1,369,768 in grants to fifteen organizations to advance critical and life-saving breast cancer early detection and treatment, as well as support for patients for the 2015-2016 grant period. The grantee group, which includes MD Anderson Cooper, represents some of the finest health care and community and family service organizations from throughout Komen Philadelphia&#8217;s fifteen-county service area; focusing on outreach to provide access to vital breast-health services for women in need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the years, our Community Grants Program has driven great progress in educating and motivating women to talk about breast cancer, practice early detection and prioritize their breast heath,&#8221; said Elaine I. Grobman, Chief Executive Officer of Susan G. Komen Philadelphia. &#8220;This progress means more women than ever are now seeking help and our current grantees are at the ready to deliver with free mammograms and treatment.
